Comme le Petit Prince, j’aime les couchers de soleil : un spectacle sans cesse renouvelé, éblouissant et purement gratuit ! J’ai pris l’habitude de les regarder avec reconnaissance en me rappelant la fidélité de Dieu, qui se renouvelle aussi chaque jour.
I personally love sunsets: a forever renewed, dazzling and completely free spectacle! I got used to watching them with a grateful heart, reminding myself of God’s faithfulness, which is also new every single day.
Assis bien au chaud devant notre poêle à bois, nous repensons à l’année qui vient de s’écouler et nous sommes émerveillés de ce que nous venons de vivre.
As we sit in front of our lovely warm fire and think back over the past year, we are amazed at everything that has happened to us.
Fin 2015, nous savions que nous allions passer notre dernier Noël en Angleterre et nous nous apprétions à l’annoncer à nos familles début 2016. Nous savions que nous allions déménager, sans pour autant en connaître tous les détails. Mais nous savions que Dieu nous parlait et nous voulions lui répondre. Ce serait la fin pour Rob de son travail à Nationwide et l’arrêt de la photo en tant que professionnelle pour Sabine. C’était un pas vers l’inconnu.
We knew that Christmas 2015 would be our last in the UK and we were planning to break the news to our families in early 2016. We knew we would be moving but not entirely sure of all the details. All we knew was that God was calling us and we had to respond. We knew it would mean the end of Robert working at Nationwide and Sabine’s photography business. We would be stepping into the unknown.
Ce que nous avons appris tout au long de cette année, c’est que Dieu est fidèle et qu’il pourvoit. Nous avons été épatés par la générosité de beaucoup d’entre vous, grâce à laquelle nous avons quitté l’Angleterre pour s’installer en Bretagne sans aucune dette ! Nous sommes très reconnaissants à tous ceux qui nous ont donné généreusement, vous savez qui vous êtes !
What we have learned over this year is that God is faithful and He provides. We have been overwhelmed by people’s generosity which enabled us to close off some ‘loose ends’ in the UK and make the move over to Brittany debt free! You know who you are: we are very grateful to all of you who gave to us very generously.
Depuis notre déménagement, nous avons continué à voir sa provision de différentes façons. En arrivant, Sabine a commencé à travailler comme professeur de français, anglais et espagnol. Elle travaille maintenant l’équivalent de 3 jours par semaine et elle n’a pas eu à chercher un seul de ses élèves !
Since we moved we have continued to see his provision in many different ways. When we arrived, Sabine started tutoring and teaching French, English and Spanish. She now works the equivalent of 3 days a week and she hasn’t had to look for one single pupil!
Nous avons aussi rencontré des ouvriers dignes de confiance, tout en sachant réagir au mieux envers ceux qui ne l’ont pas été. Quant au matériel…
We met trustworthy tradesmen and managed to deal with those that weren’t as good as we hoped. As for our material needs…
Nous sommes devenus des habitués d’Emmaüs, où nous avons trouvé (entre autres) un lit superposé, des chaises de salle à manger et ce beau buffet : en arrivant, il était en vente à 90 euros car il n’y avait pas de place dans l’entrepos ! On nous a dit que le lendemain le prix serait multiplié par 3 une fois déplacé, donc nous n’avons fait ni une, ni deux et l’avons acheté. C’est comme si Dieu nous l’avait gardé ce jour-là !
We started visiting the local « Emmaüs » (the French version of the Gate) where we found a bunk bed, dining chairs and this beautiful unit: when we arrived, it was for sale at 90 euros as there wasn’t enough space inside the warehouse! We were told that on the following day they would move it and sell it for 3 times that price, so we decided to get it there and then. It felt that God had reserved it just for us!
Avant que quitter l’Angleterre, Sabine se demandait comment nous allions nous en sortir, mais nous avons aussi trouvé des vêtements d’occasion très peu chers et en bon état pour les enfants.
Before the move, Sabine used to worry about how we’d buy clothes for the children, but we have also found second hand ones at very affordable prices and in good condition.
Pour ce Noël, nous voulions un vrai sapin pour une fois, maintenant que nous habitons à la campagne et comme nous avons de très hauts plafonds, nous voulions en prendre un grand ! Grâce à M. Leret (de Breizh Granit), nous en avons trouvé un très peu cher et il s’est même proposé de nous le livrer gratuitement, en nous donnant un seau de sable pour le mettre de dedans !
This Christmas, we wanted a real tree for the first time, now that we live in the countryside and as we have very high ceilings, we thought we’d go for a tall one! Thanks to Mr Le Ret of Breizh Granit, we got it at a bargain price and he even offered to deliver it for free, providing a bucket of sand to put it in!
Nous avons aussi compris que Dieu pourvoit au bon moment. En novembre Rob a finalement reçu le formulaire U1 qui lui permettait de s’incrire au Pôle Emploi. C’est ce qu’il a fait en décembre, mais on lui a dit qu’il n’avait aucun droit tant qu’il n’aurait pas travaillé en France, ne serait-ce que pour 1h. Comme il n’avait pas demandé le transfert de ses droits à la sécurité sociale encore à Swindon, il ne pouvait pas non plus s’inscrire à la CPAM. Mais au bout de plusieurs visites et de longs pourparlers, on lui a fourni le précieux numéro dont il avait besoin pour commencer à travailler.
We have also come to see that His timing is perfect. In November we finally received the paperwork from the UK for Rob to register as a job seeker. This we did in December but found he was not entitled to any support until he had worked in France for at least one hour! As we hadn’t requested the necessary form before leaving Swindon, Rob could not register yet unto French healthcare but after a few visits and discussions, he was given the precious provisional Social Security number, which enables him to start applying for jobs.
Cependant, à notre grande surprise, nous avons trouvé porte close quand je disais que Rob ne parlait pas français. Mais finalement, il s’est présenté au Super U d’à côté en demandant lui-même un travail en français. On lui a répondu qu’il n’y avait pas de besoins avant mars prochain, mais d’aller tout de même chez Adecco qui gérait tous les contrats d’intérim. Il y est allé le 20 décembre et le 22 on l’a appelé pour lui proposer ses premières missions ! Bien sûr, c’est un emploi provisoire, mais c’est exactement ce dont il avait besoin. Il peut ainsi travailler, tout en continuant à apprendre le français. Et cela lui a permis d’être affilié à la CPAM et de s’ouvrir des droits au chômage, en attendant de trouver mieux.
However, to our surprise, many doors seemed closed as long as Rob could not speak French. But he bravely turned up to the local supermarket and asked for a job himself in French. They advised him to speak to their agency, warning that they had no vacancies and probably wouldn’t have any until March. However, he registered on December 20th and on December 22nd he got his first mission! We know this is not his long term job but it is exactly what we need right now. He can work when needed and fit it around his French lessons. This enabled him to be fully registered here and also get support as a job seeker, as he looks for something better suited to his skills.
En ce début 2017, nous nous attendons aux promesses que Dieu nous a faites concernant notre venue en France. Nous savons que si nous continuons à marcher sur le chemin où Il nous conduit, nous pouvons avancer avec confiance, sachant qu’Il est fidèle et qu’Il pourvoiera. (1 Thess. 5.24)
As we look forward to 2017, we are full of excitement. We look forward to receiving in full the promises God has given us for this move. We know that as we walk forward following the path He has put us on, we can walk it in confidence because He is faithful and He will provide. (1 Tess. 5.24).
